Veteran's Day was commemorated at St. Paul's Lutheran School on November 11. Veterans give individual presentations in various classrooms, such as the one pictured here (left) by Mr. Henry Setton who served on the heavy cruiser, the U.S.S. Quincy, which was the flagship of President Franklin D. Roosevelt during his Yalta conference with Churchill and Stalin. Veterans who are members of our congregation attending the all-school assembly in the gymnasium included Mr. Bob Taylor, Mr. Herold Wind, Mr. Henry Setton and Mr. Donald Zirzow. Pictured on the right is an SPLS alum, David Kivi, who is currently the commander of the local Brookfield VFW post. He gave a presentation on how to treat the flag respectfully and to fold the flag properly. The children also sang patriotic songs accompanied by Mr. Zimmer. Special thanks to Mrs. Anne Clark for setting this up and to Jenny Lams for serving the caramel apples after the event! |
