Mr. Madonia is pictured here setting up our new weather station on top of the school -- made possible with some gift money from generous benefactors. The weather station collects data on temperature, humidity, wind gusts, wind direction, and total rainfall. Soon, the current readings will be available on our website and on Weather Bug. As a result, someday our school's weather station might even get mentioned on a local television station's weather forecast! |

We're thankful for many of the volunteers who come to visit our classrooms. In this case, Char Krueger came to the Kindergarten class to give them a real tea party. |

Mr. Michael Doody brought the Argos Drum Line to perform their competition piece entitled Metals. Later, Mr. Doody got many of the students to participate in a percussion riff. This was the third of our chamber music concerts for the year. |

This year, we have begun what we hope will be a quarterly fine arts experience for our student body - a series of chamber music recitals featuring various solo instruments.
The first in this series took place on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Concordia University Chicago music education student Martha Seibel demonstrated and performed on horn. The performance included these works: Concerto for Horn, “The Glass Bead Game”, movement 1 by James Beckel, Nocturno by Franz Strauss, Divertimento by Jean Francaix, and Foxtrot by Maria Grenfell. Martha was accompanied on the piano by Dennis Zimmer.
The recital was recorded and is available by clicking on the link to the left entitled, "SPLS Chamber Music Series." (The website module used to publish the selections is a sermon speaker utility, so you may see some references to sermons though there are none.)
The next concert is scheduled in January (date TBA) and will feature saxophonist, Jeremy Ruthrauff. Family and congregational members are welcome to attend.

Mrs. Lori Payton organized a field trip for our 7th and 8th Grade class to see the Calder mobiles exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art and then to the Pre-Columbian exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago. Photographs were not permitted in those special exhibits, but as we walked from one museum to the other, we stopped to see the Cloud Gate (aka "the Bean") at Millennium Park and the "Eye" sponsored by the Chicago Loop Alliance.
